Difficulty Level of Chapakharka Paragliding:

Chapakharka Paragliding is beginner-friendly, requiring no prior experience or special fitness level. All flights are tandem, meaning you’re safely strapped to a trained pilot who controls the flight. Your only job is to enjoy the incredible scenery while the pilot handles takeoff, flight maneuvers, and landing.

Take-off requires a light jog down a grassy hill and the landing is soft and smooth on a flat field. Since Chapakharka sits at a moderate elevation, altitude sickness is not an issue. Just make sure you’re hydrated, calm, and follow the pilot's instructions.

Who Can Do This Adventure?

  • Age: Generally, participants should be at least 12 years old. Younger children may be allowed with special permission and under strict supervision.
  • Health: You should be in good physical health without serious heart, back, or neck problems. People with epilepsy, severe motion sickness, or other significant medical conditions should avoid this activity.

  • Fitness Level: No special fitness is required since tandem paragliding involves flying with a certified pilot who controls the flight. However, you should be able to walk a short distance to the takeoff point and stand during takeoff and landing.
  • Fear of Heights: If you have a severe fear of heights or anxiety, paragliding might be challenging, though many first-timers find the experience exhilarating and manageable with proper guidance.

Details Itinerary

6 Days

Your paragliding adventure begins with a convenient hotel pickup in Kathmandu. Most tour operators offer this service from central areas like Thamel, Lazimpat, Patan, or Jawalakhel. A comfortable vehicle (usually a jeep or van) will be dispatched to pick you up and take you toward Godavari, a lush green suburb in the Lalitpur district.

6 Days

Upon reaching Godavari, your journey continues with a scenic off-road ride uphill to the paragliding launch site at Chapakharka Hill, located at an altitude of approximately 2,100 meters. The drive offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills, traditional terraced farms, and glimpses of Himalayan peaks in the distance. This part of the journey builds excitement as you gain elevation toward the takeoff point.

6 Days

Once you arrive at the takeoff site, the paragliding team conducts a thorough safety briefing. This includes:

  • Instructions on takeoff and landing posture

  • What to expect during the flight

  • Demonstration of safety procedures

  • Overview of weather conditions

After the briefing, you’ll be securely fitted with a paragliding harness and helmet. Your pilot—a licensed professional—will attach you to their harness for a tandem flight, meaning you’re not flying alone.

6 Days

This is the highlight of your day. With your pilot handling all controls, you’ll run a few steps downhill, and soon you’ll be soaring through the sky.

During the flight:

  • Enjoy views of Godavari forest, Phulchowki Hill, and the Kathmandu Valley.

  • On a clear day, you may spot the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges.

  • Most operators use GoPro cameras to capture photos and videos of your experience.

  • The flight duration is 15 to 30 minutes, depending on weather conditions and thermals.

It’s a peaceful, surreal experience that offers a bird’s-eye view of some of Nepal’s most iconic natural landscapes.

6 Days

The landing site is typically a flat open area near Rachantar or close to the Godavari Botanical Garden. The pilot ensures a smooth descent and guides you safely to the ground. After landing, you’ll remove your gear, receive your photos/videos if included, and take some time to rest or enjoy the area.

Some travelers choose to visit the nearby Botanical Garden, which features rare plants, a peaceful pond, and shaded walking trails.

6 Days

After the flight and optional exploration, your driver will transport you back to Kathmandu, typically arriving before lunch. The entire experience lasts about 3 to 4 hours from pickup to drop-off, making it a perfect half-day activity.
